Caveat: Absolutely Free Background Checks Do Not Cover Everything
Sadly, today it is becoming increasing important that you do a background check
on a new acquaintance. This is the case whether the issue at hand is employing
a new employee, starting a new business or personal relationship, or hiring
a new tenant to live in your property. Nonetheless, while undertaking absolutely
free background checks are of undoubted value, they do come with the caveat
that free background checks do not cover everything.
With this in mind, why would you consider paying for a background check, when
absolutely free background screening is an option? In short, because:
- While free background checks can provide you with some information, it is
limited." For example, if you want to do a credit check on a target person,
then it is extremely likely that you'll need to pay a credit agency to undertake
the check for you.
- Free background checks are limited. This is to say, if you want to undertake
a complete background screening, it is extremely likely that the scope of
your available absolutely free resources and time will limit the data that
can be collated from your background check. For example, would you want to
travel to all different locations and jurisdiction to ensure you have all
the information?
- You may miss something! While undertaking a background check may not seem
too difficult, the fact of the matter is that you are not a professional investigator.
As such, you are not necessarily going to know 'what' to look for in a background
check, nor what the warning signs are that would indicate to a professional
that further background searching is required.
- If you are doing an employee background check, you may be limited by law
what you are allowed to search. However, hiring a professional may be a solution
to this. So, doing free employee background checks yourself means you run
the risk of breaking the law - something which you may not know about!
For these reasons, while it is always a good idea to initiate a background
check absolutely free, depending upon the importance of why you are doing the
check, you should always consider paying a small fee to a professional.
Finally, do keep in mind that if you do absolutely free background checks,
then you are taking the risk that you may miss something - by paying a professional
to do this for you, this should no longer be a major concern.
