Preparing Yourself For An Employment Screening Process
If you are currently looking for a job, now is the time to be preparing yourself
for an employment screening process. The following are some useful ways to make
sure the information discovered in the process of employment screening won't
stop you getting that job:
Check the court records
You should know whether or not you have been arrested. You certainly should
know if you have been convicted. But, how do you know if someone else with the
same name as you has? Or, with identity theft on the rise, how can you know
if someone has used your identity? The only answer is to do a search of the
court records in the area you think your prospective employer will check and
make sure that all of the information is both accurate and up to date.
Keep in mind that court records can be like all other record keeping databases,
open to human error. So, if you find an error in your records, get that changed
before you apply for the job.
Get a credit report
Whatever job you are applying for, even if it is one that doesn't involve money,
there's a very good chance that your employer is going to screen your credit
history. You can pre-empt this by applying for a copy of your credit history.
If you find that your credit history does not accurately reflect your past,
or if you dispute any of the information in the credit report you receive, take
the matter up with the credit rating agency and tell them why you think the
records are wrong. Again, remember that identity theft is on the rise, so it
would not be inconceivable to find out that there are things on your credit
history that you have no knowledge of!
Talk things through with your previous employers
If you have previously been employed, make sure you have a chat with your previous
employers and clear with them any outstanding issues before you apply for the
new job. Nothing could be worse for you than your previous employer giving you
a bad reference.
An employment screening process is not onerous, however making sure the information
in the report generated by the employment check is correct may be. So, to prepare
yourself for the screening process, make sure what is being said about you is
accurate, true and up to date.
